RTP, SIC and TVI clarified today that they had always understood “that the proposed debates involve exclusively the leaders of parties and coalitions with parliamentary representation”, given differences with the Democratic Alliance (AD).
This position comes at a time when the importance of televised debates between parties with seats in parliament is being debated, and disagreements with the AD campaign leadership regarding the legal framework in which they take place.
The three TV channels agree “that the legal position expressed by the AD regarding the representation of coalitions is completely legitimate and reflected in the law” and repeat that “they have a different legal opinion on this issue, which stems mainly from the practice” of the National Electoral Commission (CNE ) and the Social Communications Regulatory Authority (ERC).
