AD wants IMT exemption when buying first home

The leader of the PSD-AD coalition, Luis Montenegro, said this Saturday at a rally in Penafiel that “it is necessary to give priority to young people”, creating conditions for them to stay in the country rather than emigrate. One of the measures he has proposed to achieve this is to exempt the purchase of a first home from IMT and stamp duty.

In his speech, in which he criticized the state of public services such as health and education, Montenegro also did not spare the current PS secretary general Pedro Nuno Santos, who was responsible for overseeing housing construction in the government of António Costa. “There have not been so few houses under construction since April 25,” said the leader of the coalition of SDP, CDS and PPM. He connected this fact with rising taxes and bureaucracy, “scaring off investors.”

To solve this problem, Montenegro defends a construction VAT of 6% and wants to move towards public-private partnerships “that reduce investor risk and ensure that house prices do not rise.”
