PSP union warns of ‘missteps’ by interior minister

The Allied Association of Police Professionals (ASPP/PSP) this Thursday warned the home secretary of “consistent mistakes” he has made throughout his mandate that demonstrate ignorance of the reality of the PSP.

The ASPP left a warning in a letter sent this Thursday to José Luis Carneiro, stating that the minister made “during his term of office several faux pas in some public positions and political views”, demonstrating a “lack of knowledge or bad advice.” “.

In an interview with Lusa, the ASPP president said that “there were several missteps on the part of the minister”, both in policy options and in intervention, which only demonstrate “lack of attention to issues” and “ignorance of the reality of the PSP”.

“The political communication of the minister abroad does not reflect the real life of squadrons”, which have no conditions and with an unmotivated composition, stressed Paulo Santos.

The most recent case is an announcement that police officers can use university cafeterias, which a union leader said demonstrates “gross ignorance of the functioning of the PSP” and “would have no practical effect.”

“From the reference to bonuses that police officers do not receive, to the assessment of the risk component when it is fixed, to social service funds, and, more recently, to the functioning of the PSP in relation to university nutrition. there are too many missteps by the Minister of the Interior,” says the ASPP.

In a letter, the largest police union also sent a copy of the PSP union law to Minister José Luis Carneiro “so that in the future he will be informed of the necessary legislation”, after the SEF stated in relation to the restructuring that unions should not interfere with the operational component of the Public Security Police.
