According to the Mangualde City Council, 165 of the animals were dogs and 249 cats, with CROI managing to adopt 85 animals.
In the municipality of Mangualde, in the district of Viseu alone, 60 dogs (36% of the total number of these animals) and more than fifty cats (20%) were collected, figures that, according to Councilor Rui Costa, allow for a positive assessment. to be produced.
“But we intend to do much more to protect animals, so everyone’s participation is important. We need citizens to alert City Council whenever they spot an unguarded dog or cat so it can be caught and taken to a shelter. nursery, and later put up for adoption,” said Rui Costa.
Of the animals collected by CROI in 2023, two dozen were adopted by families in Mangualda.
“The more animals that are adopted, the more space we have to welcome others without allowing them to be abandoned or die on the streets,” the councilor said.
According to the municipality, in 2023, “more than 160 companion animals were sterilized at KROI, which helped stop the breeding of dogs and cats.”
