According to the Portuguese Automobile Association (ACAP), more than 600 new cars per day have been introduced into circulation since the beginning of the year, with a total of 36,248 registrations recorded between January and February. More than half of the cars sold run on forms of energy other than gasoline or diesel, namely electric and hybrid vehicles.
Total sales were 42,280 new vehicles in the first two months of the year, representing an increase of 17.5% compared to the same period in 2023, with a focus on passenger cars, which saw slightly higher growth (18%).
In turn, ACAP shows that 50.4% of new registered passenger cars were powered by other forms of energy: in particular, it turns out that 15.7% of these vehicles were electric. On the other hand, only 8.5% of cars sold were diesel, with petrol coming second in the table (41.1% of cars sold).
By brand, the leadership belonged to Peugeot: 4,711 cars were sold, which is almost 32% more than in the same period last year. Secondly, the Dacia brand recorded sales growth of almost 47%, according to data published this Friday by ACAP.
Heavy passenger vehicles also stand out from sales: 217 vehicles were sold in the first two months of the year, almost double the number in January and February last year.
