The former president of the PSD, Rui Rio, said this Wednesday that there are only two options in the legislature: those who “understand that everything is fine in the country”, or those who understand that change is necessary, along with Luis Montenegro in Viana- do Castelo.
The current PSD president and his predecessor arrived together this Wednesday on foot on the street in Viana do Castelo and even climbed onto the balcony, making the letter “V” for victory, which both said was the sign of the union.
“This is, of course, a sign of alliance, but it will not be a sign of disunity,” Rui Rio told reporters in a good-natured tone at the end.
Montenegro considered the presence of the previous party leader, with whom he had already competed for leadership and had serious disagreements in the past, as “an expression of the unity and cohesion” with which AD is approaching this campaign.
“Dr. Rui Rio is a politician with extensive experience and has done a lot of work. He was the president of the PSD, I am honored to be here and to be able to share this walk through the streets of Viana,” he said. , highlighting the former leader’s emotional connection to the district.
Asked about the message he wants to leave with this campaign, Rui Rio, who led the PSD between 2018 and 2022, said that “almost everything has already been said, people already have all the data to think about what they are going to do it.” .
“It all comes down to a very simple situation: those who understand that the country is doing well will repeat the vote they have always done; someone who understands that things are going badly in the country wants to be better, that there must be changes. , if they really want to change, then there is really only one alternative,” he replied, without naming either PS or AD.
Rio added that after Sunday’s legislative elections, “there will be a change in the people” but a change in policy is not guaranteed.
“Anyone who thinks everything went well is not changing, who understands that the country needs change and improvement in many areas, obviously has only one alternative – change,” he said.
The former PSD leader said he “obviously” believes the AD will win, although he warns that the polls should not be trusted, and refused to give advice to Luis Montenegro, believing that they were not needed, and if there were any, it would be at first.
“Now almost everything has been said, there are no more arguments, except the most emotional component, to force people to vote,” he said.
When asked if a protest vote could punish AD, Rio said the PS would be punished first.
Already asked to comment on what could be the basis of a possible lesion in AD, he replied: “If this happens, then it is connected, in my opinion, with factors that were decisive, as happened in my time, with aspects such as minimum wage and reforms that force people to vote based on this history and forget about the future of the country,” he said.
“Either we vote for the future of tomorrow, in 24 hours, or we vote for the future in five, six years. Anyone who thinks about the future of the country, their children and grandchildren must change, it has been proven that this was a government that thought about tomorrow, not about the future of the country,” he said.
