The song that will represent Portugal at the 68th Eurovision Song Contest, which takes place in Sweden in May, will be chosen this Saturday from the 12 songs that will compete in the final of the song contest, which celebrates its 60th anniversary this year. The ceremony, which, as in previous years, will be hosted by Filomena Cautela and Vasco Palmeirim, will be broadcast live on RTP1 from the studio of the public station in Lisbon.
The competition features 12 songs in order of presentation: “Change” by Silka Nobre, “Criatura” by Rita Onofre, “Memory” by Noble, “O Farol” by Buba Espinho, “Conspiracy Theories” by the author. Nena, “Grito”, Yolanda, “Aceitar”, No Maca (Emanuel Oliveira and Duarte Carvalho), with Ana Maria, “Primavera”, Cristina Clara, “Pontos Finale”, Rita Rocha, “Doce Mistério”, Leo Middea, “ Bem Far Aqui” by Perpetua and “Pelas Costuras” by Joao Borsha.
The themes that competed in this Saturday’s final were chosen in two semi-finals, which took place on February 24 and March 2, also at the RTP studio in Lisbon.
The winner is chosen by a regular voting system: half the points are awarded by a jury made up of representatives from the seven regions of mainland Portugal and the islands, and the other half by public voting. In the event of a tie, the public’s choice prevails. Voting has been open since Monday, and the phone numbers corresponding to each song are available on Festival da Canção’s social media accounts.
The winner of the song contest will represent Portugal at the 68th Eurovision Song Contest, which will be held in Malmö, Sweden, in May, 50 years after the country’s first win with ABBA’s “Waterloo”.
