The rise in cases of sexual assault and harassment on airplanes is alarming in the United States. In accordance with Fox NewsBetween 2019 and 2021, there was a significant increase in the number of investigations opened into sexual misconduct on airplanes, some of which involved minors.
According to the same source, two passengers on separate flights to Seattle recently admitted to sexually assaulting two women.
Dwayne Brick and Jack Roberson, 63 and 69, pleaded guilty in early March of this year to simple assault and offensive sexual contact, respectively.
Brick admitted that he took advantage of the fact that the passenger next to him on the flight was sleeping to put his hand on his groin. The attacker also said that he touched the victim’s chest.
Roberson admitted in court that he massaged the 15-year-old girl’s thighs and put his hand under her skirt during a flight from Atlanta to Seattle.
The men will be sentenced in June and could face prison sentences of one to two years.
The crimes committed by Brick and Roberson are just two of the cases of in-flight sexual assault and harassment reported in the past year. Data accessed by Fox News shows that young people are at greatest risk of sexual assault on airplanes, with women aged 16 to 19 four times more likely to be victims.
Tessa Gorman, the US attorney in Washington, said authorities were investigating the incidents.
“There continues to be an alarming increase in incidents of sexual assault on board aircraft. Last August we stressed that we do not tolerate such attacks. “Unfortunately, we continue to learn of new allegations and are investigating and prosecuting these cases.” he decreed.
