A domestic flight in Nepal crashed Wednesday with 19 people on board as it took off from Kathmandu, Nepal’s Kathmandu Post newspaper reported. Police confirmed that 18 bodies had been recovered and that the pilot was the only survivor.
“Nineteen people, including the crew, were on board the plane bound for Pokhara,” airport spokesman Premnath Thakur said.
Tribhuvan International Airport, Nepal’s main airport for international and domestic flights, has been closed while emergency crews work. The plane belongs to domestic airline Saurya, Nepal Television reported.
The pilot suffered non-life-threatening eye injuries. Photos of the burning plane and debris at the scene are being posted on social media.
