Meanwhile, management of the municipality will be transferred to the second-in-command of the municipal executive, Vice-President Domingos Silva, who has succeeded Salvador Malheiro several times since 2013 as head of the chamber.

“Since I suspended my mandate for the electoral campaign, I have definitively handed over the portfolio to Domingos Silva and have full confidence in his work,” said Salvador Malheiro.

According to the preliminary results of Sunday’s elections, the AD coalition – PSD, CDS-PP and PPM – managed to elect seven deputies in the Aveiro district, gaining 35.13% of the votes and seven deputies, thus surpassing 27.69% and five deputies. elected from the PS, whose list was headed by Pedro Nuno Santos.

In the same constituency, the rest of those elected to parliament are from Chegi, which received 17.25% of the votes and three deputies, and from the Liberal Initiative (IL), which received 5.11% and one elected deputy.

However, in the specific case of Ovar, the local vote gave victory to the PS with 31.93% of the votes. AD came in second with 29.89%, followed by Chega with 14.94%, BE with 5.84% and IL with 5.47%.

At the national level, the coalition led by Luis Montenegro won the elections with 29.49% of the votes, electing 79 deputies to the Assembly of the Republic.

The PS came second with 38.66% of the votes and 77 MPs elected, followed by Chega as the third political force with 18.06% of the voters and 48 elected.

With the same number of seats as in the previous legislature, IL received eight seats in the Assembly of the Republic, BE five and PAN one, and Livre increased its representation from one to four deputies. Conversely, the CDU lost two parliamentarians and is now left with only four.

It remains to decide on four deputies for emigration, who will become known only on March 20. Only after this date and after hearing all parties represented in Parliament, the President of the Republic will appoint a new Prime Minister.
