Jorge Moreira da Silva, the losing candidate for the leadership of the PSD in the last election, called the party’s presence at Chega’s National Convention “deplorable”. The publication was made through twitter late this Sunday evening.
“This is an unacceptable normalization of a racist, xenophobic and extremist party,” the social network says.
Luis Montenegro’s opponent in the last SDP leadership election also said that Chega’s standardization violates “values” and “principles” and that “it is not compromised”.
This Sunday, the Chega National Convention ended in Santarem. For three days, various issues internal and external to the party were discussed. André Ventura was re-elected with 98.3% of the vote and promised to win over the Portuguese and the government.
I consider the presence of the SDP at the congress in Chega regrettable. This is an unacceptable normalization of a racist, xenophobic, extremist party. I repeat what I said in 2020 and in Lives 2022: never, never, never. It violates our values and principles. And there is no compromise in this.
