A group of suspected Somali pirates seized on Tuesday the Bangladesh-flagged bulk carrier MV Abdullah, which left the port of Maputo last week with coal bound for the United Arab Emirates, the company that owns it confirmed this Wednesday.
“We have received information that the ship was attacked by pirates in the Indian Ocean. The crew is safe in the ship’s cabins,” said Mizanul Islam, a spokesman for Kabir Steel Re-Rolling Mills (KSRM), the ship’s owner.
The bulk carrier “MV Abdullah”, almost 190 meters long, weighing 58 thousand tons and with 23 crew members, left the port of Maputo with coal – Mozambique’s main export product – on the morning of March 4 and was expected on March 19, Hamriyah port, Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
Following the incident off the coast of Somalia on Tuesday afternoon, KSRM says it is trying to make contact with the pirates.
