Mozambique’s Pequenos Limbos dam, which supplies water to Maputo province, will increase releases to ensure the safety of the infrastructure as the rainy season approaches, the Regional Water Authority (ARA) said on Saturday.
“In preparation for the 2024/25 rainy season, in order to create storage capacity and maintain the operational safety of the Pequenos Limbos Dam, the Southern Regional Water Authority will gradually increase releases from September 1,” the state said in a statement.
In the coming days, the increase will increase from seven cubic meters of water discharge to 30 cubic meters, the report says.
ARA-Sul calls on the public to take precautions on the Umbeluzi River, which feeds the dam, to avoid crossing it and to monitor hydrological information from the competent authorities.
