This Thursday the eighth court hearing in the case of the murder of Igor Silva will take place. Marco “Orelhas” and his son Renato have already arrived at the São João do Novo court in Porto, where family members of the accused who are considered witnesses, including the wife of Paulo Cianfra and the sister of “Orelhas”, who were involved in the clashes, are to be heard. A total of three defense witnesses are to be questioned. Subsequently, defendants who have not yet given statements, such as Paulo Cardoso, the son-in-law of the ears, and three defendants who are at large, will be heard. Yara Gonsalves failed to appear in court and, according to the prosecutor, the acquittal is invalid, meaning she should be sentenced to a fine. The judge gave the defendant 10 days to submit another justification.
The daughter-in-law of Marco “Orelhas” said that Igor got angry and started fighting
Tania Marlene, daughter-in-law of Marco “Orellas”, said that she went to a party of FC Porto and at first there were only women there. Later Renato and friends arrived. Sergio Machado, one of the murder defendants who remains at large, was present, she said.
Marco’s daughter-in-law said that Igor “was very angry, they said that they threw stones at his mother’s window” and that Sonya, “Orelhas’s” sister, confronted the victim.
Witness claims the three accused were not at the crime scene
Christiana Silva is a friend and neighbor of the three free defendants: Sergio Machado, Rui “Dentinho” Costa and Miguel “Banana” Pereira. She was called as a witness for the defense because she was near the Super Bock tent where she saw Igor arguing with Renato’s family.
Christiana said she did not understand the content of the conversation and that police then ordered people to stay away from the area. As she left, Christina said that she noticed a large apparatus, but since “the confusion was great,” she did not approach it. She assured that she was chatting with friends and that Sergio, Rui and Miguel were also nearby.
The woman explained that Sergio and the group were advised to leave, but the police approached them anyway, not understanding the reason. Thus, this witness releases the three accused outside the crime scene.
The witness assures that the brother and husband did not go to the stadium to attack Igor
Sonia Gonçalves, sister of Marco “Orellas” and wife of Paulo Cardoso, assured that her husband and brother went to the stadium not to attack Igor, but to look for their family. That day, Marisa, Marco “Orelhas’s” wife, was at the scene and called her partner, fearing for her safety.
A woman crying in court said that she and Igor became friends, but the family and the young man were not on good terms. On the day of the crime, the husband was told that his wife and son had been attacked, but Sonya clarified that this was not true.
During her testimony, she called her husband a coward for not trying to quickly put an end to the conflict that existed between the young man and his family.
“Orelhas’s” sister said she tried to talk to the victim to steer him away from the confrontation. “I said, ‘Listen to me for our friendship.’ He didn’t want to talk to me and told me: “I want your brother, I’ll kill him.” Then PSP showed up and we left,” he said.
Sonya assured that she did not witness the crime. “I always stayed away from them, and only later did I see my brother with a bleeding hand. He told me that he had been stabbed to death. Then I saw Paulo. He looked like he was crazy. He simply said, “What were you doing? What?” It was? Who did it?”. He was obsessed, he was in a panic when he saw the boy there,” Sonya said.
“Only God knows what I went through during these two years, I was threatened. I am alone. He [Paulo] he saw Igor on the ground, went to help him, and now he was arrested,” he noted.
Igor Silva was attacked and stabbed 18 times during clashes outside the Dragao stadium during celebrations for the 2021/22 league season. There are 12 defendants on trial and four are in prison.
In court, as at recent court hearings, police reinforcement was established.
