Four restaurants in Lisbon’s historic center have closed due to lack of hygiene

Four restaurants on Rua do Benformoso, in Lisbon’s historic center, were closed on Monday “due to lack of hygiene conditions and various violations” after joint inspections with several organizations, PSP said on Wednesday.

According to the PSP, the complete suspension of the activities of four establishments on Rua do Benformoso in the parish of Santa Maria Mayor took place on Monday after an inspection carried out in collaboration with the Tax Office, the Food Safety Authority and the Economic Service (ASAE). ), the Portuguese Institute of Social Security and the Directorate of Working Conditions (ACT).

Restaurants were closed “due to lack of hygiene conditions and various offenses”, and 29 administrative offenses were issued, namely seven for lack of hygiene, six for failure to issue invoices and two for illegal workers.

The remaining administrative offenses concerned the lack of mandatory information signs, the lack of indication of opening hours, the lack of menus in Portuguese, as well as the lack of product prices and VAT indication.

The PSP statement also indicated that on March 13, in another operation carried out in the same parish and Misericordia, targeting establishments selling retail goods, hundreds of items related to vaporized tobacco and sports equipment were seized because they were evading excise taxes and /or are counterfeit products.

425 items with a total value of €5,137 were seized, including 178 items related to vaporized tobacco (“vapes”) valued at €1,882 and 247 counterfeit sporting goods (namely T-shirts and shorts) valued at €3,255.

As part of this operation, 18 proceedings were initiated for administrative offenses, including several due to the lack of labels, one for the seizure of distilled alcoholic products without brands, four for issues related to fire extinguishers, one for failure to issue an invoice and another due to failure to send the original page of the complaint book.
