As a result of the road collapse, the IP4 road in the municipality of Vila Real was closed in both directions. This Thursday the traffic was blocked at 8 am. Infraestruturas de Portugal (IP) said traffic reductions would continue as the planned intervention had “some complexity” and would be carried out “as quickly as possible”.
“The closure to traffic in this area will continue until this intervention, which needs to be carried out as quickly as possible, is completed.”
Portugal’s infrastructure was in place to assess the situation and try to understand the extent and causes of the decline.
Traffic is forwarded via IP to Estrada Nacional 15 (EN15). There is also an alternative to the Maran Tunnel located on Highway 4 (A4), a toll road.
The IP is calling for a “better understanding of any inconvenience this restriction may cause” and guarantees it will update the information as necessary.
