On Friday, the Viana do Castelo GNR announced that four more people suspected of stealing a van and about €50,000 worth of copper and aluminum from a local company in February had been identified and charged.
Following the theft, GNR identified one of the perpetrators, a 61-year-old man, and recovered some of the material. Now, in a major police operation that took place in Viana do Castelo and Vila Verde, Braga, the PNP has tracked down four more suspects, ranging in age from 24 to 45 years.
The suspects, all with criminal records, were charged and the case is now being handled by the Viana do Castelo Ministry of Justice.
In a statement, the GNR said that ten search warrants were carried out in the municipalities of Viana do Castelo and Vila Verde: five on houses and five on vehicles, “which resulted in the confiscation of several objects related to the crime.”
He also adds that “during the investigation, already on February 12, a stolen car and about 300 kilograms of base metals were discovered and seized.”
The operation was attended by 76 units of the Republican National Guard from different areas of the Viana do Castelo Territorial Command, the Braga Territorial Command, the Group for Public Order (GIOP) and the Intervention Unit (UI), also counting on the support of the Public Security Police (PSP) of the district Viana do Castelo
