A 68-year-old man died this Friday as a result of a motorcycle accident he was driving in Vila Nova de São Bento, municipality of Serpa, Beja district, a GNR source told the Lusa agency.
A source from the Subregional Command for Emergency Situations and Civil Protection of Baixo Alentejo said the alarm was raised at 19:22.
The accident occurred on Avenida da Liberdade in Vila Nova de São Bento, and the man was pronounced dead on the spot by a doctor from the Beja Ambulance and Resuscitation Medical Vehicle (VMER), a source in the subregional command said.
Thirteen firefighters from Serpa, the National Institute of Emergency Medical Services and the GNR were mobilized to the scene, supported by six vehicles, including a VMER and an immediate life support ambulance from Moura.
Also in Vila Nova de São Bento, a collision that occurred today at around 9:00 pm between a car and a motorcycle on Rua do Sobral resulted in serious injury to a 34-year-old man who was taken to Beja. Hospital, according to GNR and civil protection sources.
