Representative and evangelist pastor Javier Bertucci today officially announced his candidacy for the next presidential elections in Venezuela, which will take place on July 28.
“This is my second chance,” the El Cambio party candidate said at the headquarters of the National Electoral Council in Caracas.
Javier Bertucci is running for president of Venezuela for the second time after running in the 2018 elections.
Bertucci said he is committed to democracy and to Venezuelans, eight out of ten of whom are “seeking change” and “a different country,” and that he is committed to reunification, tolerance and national peace.
According to the candidate, “there is nothing better than the Christian faith” to restore the values of society and achieve “social reconstruction” in Venezuela.
“If faith in Jesus Christ can change a person, it can also change a country,” the evangelical pastor defended, adding that if elected he would work in the fields of economics, health and education.
In the 2018 presidential elections, Nicolás Maduro was re-elected to a new six-year term.
At the time, Bertucci was the third candidate with the most votes.
The registration period for candidates for the 2024 presidential election began Thursday and ends Monday.
In addition to Javier Bertucci, deputies Luis Eduardo Martinez, Juan Alvarado and José Brito, former mayor Daniel Ceballos and opponent Antonio Ecarri have already officially nominated their candidacy.
On Saturday, the main opposition coalition, the Democratic Unitary Platform, condemned obstacles to the registration of its candidate Corina Joris, proposed on Friday as an alternative to former lawmaker Maria Corina Machado, a Maduro opponent who was barred from running by the Supreme Court.
