Members of the Council of the European Central Bank (ECB) acknowledged at their last meeting in March that the case for interest rate cuts was gaining ground, it was announced this Thursday.
According to the minutes of a monetary policy meeting held in early March, ECB members acknowledged that while it was prudent to wait for data, “the case for considering rate cuts is strengthening.”
This argument was based on the most recent macroeconomic forecasts from ECB experts, which included improved inflation forecasts and deteriorating growth rates, as well as further progress on the three criteria specified by the Council and a more balanced assessment of risks.
