Storm Olivia’s northward movement from the Azores is carrying a ton of hot air out of North Africa, impacting the continent, with the potential for maximum temperatures of 28 degrees in Alcácer do Sal and Coros this Friday. Associated with the heat is a blanket of sand from the Sahara Desert, which will reach the continent in the coming days and is expected to extend as far as Sweden. According to the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere, “suspended dust is expected in the afternoon, most likely in the southern region.”
Dust will be joined by high levels of pollen in the air starting this Friday in all areas, according to the Allergy Society.
This weekend, with the movement of a cold front from the Atlantic Ocean, rain is forecast in the North, Center, North Coast and showers in the south, and a drop in temperature. In Lisbon, a maximum of 24 degrees is forecast this Friday, but temperatures will not rise above 19 degrees on Saturday. The same trend is observed in Coimbra with a drop in temperature from 25 to 21 degrees and in Porto from 25 to 20 degrees.
