The Ministry of Education gathers today all trade union organizations for a new round of negotiations

This Wednesday, the Ministry of Education will bring together 12 trade union organizations participating in negotiations on the competition and the employment regime for a new round of negotiations.

This is the fourth round of negotiations to review the recruitment and mobility of teaching staff, and for the first time in these negotiations, the Minister of Education and the Secretary of State will sit at the table in the ministry from 10 00:00, simultaneously with all trade union organizations.

The request for a unified negotiating table was already presented at the last meeting, two weeks ago, by a platform of eight organizations, including the National Federation of Teachers (Fenprof), but then it was rejected because not everyone agreed.

Negotiations began in September, and at the last meeting on January 20, Minister Joao Costa presented a number of proposals that include, for example, increasing the number of employees in the pedagogical zone from 10 to 63, reducing its number, creating teachers in the staff of the school in 2024, merging 10 thousand teachers and an increase in vacancies to enter the 5th and 7th levels.

The measures did not convince the unions, who criticized the guardianship authorities for not providing answers to the basic demands of teachers, especially to take into account all the frozen experience.

For this reason, the organizations decided to continue the strikes and there are currently four strikes called by various unions.

However, last week the Ministry of Education again met with trade union organizations at a technical meeting to discuss the submitted proposals for the competition and the employment regime.

Since December, teachers have been on strike demanding better working conditions and wages, an end to instability, faster career advancement, and full accounting of working hours.

The first strike was an initiative of the Union of All Teachers (STOP), which called for an indefinite strike that would last until at least February 24. At the beginning of the 2nd period, the Independent Union of Teachers and Educators began a partial strike in the first period of classes, which continues to this day.

Also ongoing are the county strike ending next week, called by the Eight Union Platform, recently joined by the National Federation of Education, and the three-day national strike that began Wednesday by the National Union of Licensed Teachers.

In the meantime, minimum services have been set for the STOP strike, running until the end of the week, but guaranteeing that no educational institution will be closed, regardless of the strike that teachers and staff join.
