The Judicial Police are investigating the death of an 88-year-old woman after being attacked by her own dogs in the village of Conqueiros, parish of São Martinho das Amoreiras, municipality of Odemira. Inspectors arrived at the scene, but found no signs of a crime.
The woman was alone when, for unknown reasons, she was attacked by her own animals, three Alentejo mongrels. The animals, two females and a dog, were sent to the municipal kennel of Odemira, where they will await a decision regarding their future, which should include slaughter.
The alarm was raised at around 4pm on Monday 8 April by a daughter who found her mother lying on the floor with several injuries caused by animals.
When emergency services arrived at the scene, the elderly woman was already in cardiopulmonary arrest and resuscitation efforts were carried out, but to no avail.
The health department pronounced him dead at the scene and the body was taken to the Beja Hospital mortuary.
The rescue operations involved the resources and operational personnel of the Odemir and Odemir SIV Fire Department.
The NDP and the judicial police were at the scene and will now investigate the incident.
