The Minister of Youth and Modernization assured this Thursday that “there will be no changes” to the current legislature on voluntary termination of pregnancy (IVG), and criticized what she called the “pamphleteer’s policy” of the previous executive director.

During the debate on the program of the XXIV Constitutional Government, Margarida Balseiro López returned to the core commitments to youth set out in the PSD/CDS-PP executive document and drew a “red line”.

“We have a red line: we don’t have access to pamphlet politics that don’t decide anyone’s life, propaganda campaigns that keep everything in place. The lack of housing, low wages and above all the lack of hope cannot be solved. with train tickets, a week in hotels and book vouchers,” he said, referring to measures announced by former PS Prime Minister António Costa at the party’s “rental meeting” last summer.

Margarido Balseiro Lopez asked PS MP and former Secretary of State for Equality Elsa Pais about the combination of areas such as youth and equality in the current government.

“The government’s program is a handful of good intentions, but completely empty. They undermine equality among young people, with all due respect, this is a loss of importance for equality, but also for young people it is a patchwork quilt where they will also join in the modernization.” “, he criticized.

In their response, the minister and former JSD leader said the three areas had a “common element”.

“These are cross-cutting areas that will force me, and rightly so, to work with all members of the government, I don’t think that’s a bad thing,” he believes.

Elsa Pais also asked the governor to commit not to change the legislation concerning IVG after the issue caused controversy in the AD election campaign, with CDS-PP leader and current MP Paulo Nuncio defending a new referendum on the topic.

In her response, the Minister of Youth confirmed the commitments already made during the election campaign by the current Prime Minister Luis Montenegro.

“It has already been clearly stated that there will be no changes in this area in the current legislative body. Deputy interference is moving into the area of ​​disinformation,” he complained.

In his initial speech, Balseiro López reaffirmed the government program’s commitments in these areas, such as the IRS top rate for young people of 15% or housing measures such as IMT and stamp duty exemptions. when buying a home for young people, along with a government guarantee of full financing for a first home and a greater focus on student accommodation.
