MP investigates links between INEM employees and private training company

The Ministry of Justice is investigating the connection of some employees of the National Institute of Emergency Medicine (INEM) with a private company that is responsible for training carried out at the institute itself.

In a response sent to Lusa, the Attorney General’s Office confirms that an investigation has been opened at the Central Directorate of Investigation and Criminal Affairs (DIAP) in Lisbon.

The investigation is based on a complaint which, among other things, refers to the existence of people responsible for INEM departments who are also responsible for the same areas in the private company Ocean Medical, based in Taguspark, Oeiras.

Lusa questioned INEM, which said it was not aware of any investigation into the matter.

According to information posted on the Ocean Medical website, the company, founded in 2008, trains more than 6 thousand people a year.

“For doctors and nurses who need skills and certifications in critical care and trauma medicine, Ocean Medical is always the first choice,” the company says.

Ocean Medical’s trainers are physicians and nurses “with experience in critical care, emergency services and/or intensive care units and prehospital emergency care,” according to available information.

Ocean Medical currently employs more than 200 instructors.

Among the various courses taught by Ocean Medical are, for example, Basic Life Support and AED for Health Care Providers, Advanced Pediatric Life Support, Approach, Transport and Safety of the Critically Ill, Assessing People in Critical Situation, and EMS help for the crew.”
