The regional political commission of the PSD/Azores has decided to propose to the regional council of the party to hold direct elections for the president of the structure on July 20, and the 26th congress from September 20 to 22, as it became known this Friday.
A statement from the regional structure of the party indicated that the discussion took place on Thursday evening in a videoconference of the executive body of the Azores Social Democrats, chaired by José Manuel Bolheiro, leader of the PSD/Azores and also president of the party. Regional Government (PSD/SDU-PP/PPM).
The proposed dates will now be submitted for approval to the Regional Council, the highest body of the party structure between congresses, which meets on Saturday via video conference, according to the note.
In June 2022, José Manuel Bolheiro was elected for a second term as head of the archipelago party, winning at that time 99% of the vote in a direct election in which he ran unopposed.
