Today, World Book Day, more than 50 authors, joined by editors, booksellers and translators, will gather in Largo de São Carlos in Lisbon to celebrate the importance of reading from 18:00. This is the first time this event is open to the public.

“This will be a moment for all who contribute to freedom and democracy – writing, editing, selling and reading books – to celebrate this special day together,” says Pedro Sobral, who hopes that “the public will join the proposal en masse.
“There will be plenty of conversation, music to give texture and context to the debate, food to ensure no one goes hungry, and readers to ask questions of their favorite authors,” says the person in charge. Francisco Moita Flores, Ana Barbara Pedrosa, Domingos Amaral, Julieta Monjinho and Jacinto Lucas Pires are some of the writers who have confirmed their presence at this meeting. Miguel Guizzas and DJ Jade Alvim provide the music.

On this day, Porto Editora will provide shelves of books to offer to Lisbon metro passengers.

Passengers will be able to find books in from eight in the morning, at Entrecampos, Rato and Restauradores stations.

Porto Editora will also deliver dozens of books. to 49 establishments prisons and six educational centers in the country.
