One of the four youths accused of attacking a Nepalese immigrant in Olhana in January 2023 will undergo a psychiatric examination at the Institute of Forensic Medicine (IML) on May 23 at the request of the defense.
Tuesday’s short court hearing in the case, which has been going on since January at a Faro court, heard only from a psychiatrist who accompanied the same young man, one of two in pre-trial detention, between 2020 and 2021. .
In court, Ivo Peixoto said the suspect was exhibiting symptoms of hyperactivity, impulsivity and difficulty concentrating at the time, which affected the school environment, but said he did not identify any signs of danger in the young man.

The four defendants, who were 16 years old at the time of the attack in late January 2023, are charged with robbery, qualifying bodily harm and criminal damage with violence. Two are in pre-trial detention.
The case came to light after a video was posted on social media showing an immigrant lying on the ground in a defensive position, trying to protect himself from aggression.
At the time, the PSP said the attacks and robberies were carried out “using collective power based on highly gratuitous and spontaneous violence, especially from the three youths with the highest pedigree in the group.”
To identify the group, PSP interviewed several witnesses and reviewed more than 20,000 videos, as well as hundreds of hours of images collected by CCTV cameras installed in the city of Olhão.
The young men communicated with each other through a closed Instagram group they called 8700, which corresponds to Olhão’s postal code, and it was there that the attacks were carried out.
The attack on a Nepalese immigrant in Olhana occurred on January 25, 2023, when the group stole the backpack of the victim, who did not file a complaint.
In the video, the Nepalese citizen begged them to stop attacking him and at least return his documents.
