Five people were killed and 18 missing after heavy rains hit the southern Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Sul, the regional government said.
The bad weather affected 77 municipalities in the state and led to the evacuation of one hundred people from their homes. According to a statement issued by regional authorities on Tuesday, two hundred people were sent to emergency housing.
“The federal government will join the efforts of state and city governments to help us survive and overcome this difficult moment, reflecting the climate changes that are affecting the planet,” Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva wrote at a press conference. social network X (formerly Twitter) after a meeting with the Governor of Rio Grande do Sul, Eduardo Leite.
