Russia claims to have shot down at least six US missiles fired at Crimea during the Ukrainian attack. “Ten Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles, six American-made ATACMS tactical missiles and two French-made Hummer guided bombs were shot down by air defense systems,” the Russian Ministry of Defense said.
In recent days, Ukraine has begun using ATACMS, missiles with a range of up to 300 kilometers sent by the United States. They were first used on April 17 against a Russian airfield in Crimea, which was located 165 kilometers from the Ukrainian front line.
Moscow also said it had struck a key Ukrainian army headquarters in the south of the country, near the port of Odessa. Ukrainian authorities have not yet responded to the attack, but Kyiv acknowledged that several buildings and civilian infrastructure were attacked in Odessa yesterday morning. One of these Russian rocket attacks killed at least three people and injured three others.
Ukraine on Tuesday accused Russia of wanting to kill large numbers of civilians after another attack on the port city.
