Negotiations between the government and unions to restore teachers’ working hours will officially begin this Friday, according to the Ministry of Education, which has convened meetings with 12 representative bodies.
Meetings at the Ministry of Education, Science and Innovation in Lisbon start at 8:30 with the National Federation of Teachers (Fenprof), continue at 10:15 with the National Federation of Education (FNE) and end between 12:00:00 and 13:30 with ASPL, FENEI, FEPECI, Pró-Ordem, SEPLEU, SIPE, SIPPEB, SNPL, SPLIU and Stop.
According to the ministry, the negotiation process also focuses on “other measures to develop teaching careers.”
At the end of a day of meetings with unions two weeks ago, his first since taking office, Education Minister Fernando Alexandre said he was ready to negotiate on compensation for seniority, stressing that the government’s proposal envisaged compensation starting from then. year with 20% of the cost and the remaining 80% over the next four legislative years.
The minister recalled that different trade unions presented very different formulas for replacing length of service.
Most favored recovery after three years (33% per year), but there were those who suggested 60% in the first two years and 40% in the last two years, or 25% per year. The stop, for example, protected economic recovery in just two years, that is, by 50% each year.
