A warning has been issued in the UK after an exotic species of “jumping” spider was discovered in the country for the first time, reports the Mirror.
Spiders of the Anasaitismileae species can make considerable leaps when chasing prey or escaping from immediate danger. The arachnid is descended from other Caribbean species and experts believe it arrived in the UK via imported plants.
Some of these spiders, as well as 500 other species, were discovered in a study by the University of Exeter.
Zoologists believe that these spiders are not tied to the place where they were found. The arachnids were found only in Cornwall.
Experts have confirmed that this species is unlike anything found in Europe.
