Group suspected of attacking Nepalese immigrant found in Olyan

The interior minister said this Saturday that the attacks against a Nepalese immigrant in Olhão, Algarve, are “unacceptable behavior” that should be “just about punished,” adding that some suspects have already been identified.

“Some suspects we have already identified, others may be identified in the coming hours, in the coming days, and it is very likely that there will be strict public disclosure over the next week about what was unacceptable, unacceptable behavior,” José Luis Carneiro told reporters in a statement. in Macedo de Cavaleiros.

The attacks on a man by a group of young men on January 25, which became public after a video was posted on social media showing an immigrant lying on the ground in a defensive position, trying to defend himself. kicks, punches and sticks thrown by the aggressors, whose faces are hard to see due to the fact that they wear hoods.

According to the minister, “a core of people who were part of the group that barbarously attacked” the citizen was identified, and the PSP, together with the Ministry of Industry and Trade, is taking steps to collect information to bring those responsible for the aggression to justice.

“This is unacceptable behavior that should be roughly punished,” defended José Luis Carneiro, believing that in the next few days there will be “public information that will allow the culprits to be presented, for which they interfere, evidence, very strong evidence that will allow those who acted in such a way, be held accountable.”

The interior minister also added that the PSP had identified “other circumstances equivalent to those that happened to this young man”, noting that the investigation was at an “advanced stage”.

In addition to the repeated attacks, the group also stole the victim’s backpack, who did not file a complaint, while she pleads with them to stop attacking him and at least return the documents he kept in the backpack, as seen in the video.

A PSP source told Lusa that an investigation is underway to find out who was responsible for the attack and the robbery, who posted the video on social media and under what circumstances it happened.

The investigation is also trying to establish how many elements made up the group and the involvement of each of them in the crimes committed.
