The Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) issued yellow warnings this Sunday for nine Azores islands due to forecasts of “occasionally heavy rainfall that may be accompanied by thunderstorms” from dawn.
According to the IPMA, for the islands of the Central Group (Terceira, São Jorge, Pico, Graciosa and Faial), the warning will be in effect from 00:00 Monday until 6:00 Tuesday.
In the western group (Corvo and Flores) from 6:00 Monday to 15:00 Tuesday.
In the eastern group (Santa Maria and San Miguel), a yellow warning is in effect from 6:00 Monday until 12:00 Tuesday.
A yellow warning, the least severe on a scale of three, is issued whenever a risk situation arises for certain activities due to weather conditions.
