BE wants to create the right to a respectful absence from work for women suffering from endometriosis or adenomyosis, and also for the SNS to provide the ability to collect and store oocytes in these cases to preserve fertility.
In a bill that Lusa had access to this Sunday, the BE parliamentary group proposes to “move forward in creating legislation to match what has already been approved and guarantee the rights, diagnosis and treatment of women and people with a uterus who suffer from endometriosis.” .
What is at stake, he defends, is “advancing the rights” of people with endometriosis, a chronic condition in which there is endometrial tissue in an ectopic region that causes, among other symptoms, intense menstrual cramps, or with adenomyosis, a disease characterized by an enlarged uterus. which can also cause chronic pain.
Thus, the goal of the party, coordinated by Katarina Martins, is to “increase the access” of these people to “health care and create a system of justified absence from work.”
The Decree-Law provides for the creation of the right to be absent for up to three days in case of disabling pain caused by endometriosis or adenomyosis.
“A female employee suffering from severe and disabling pain caused by endometriosis or adenomyosis during her menstrual cycle is entitled to a respectful absence from work without loss of any right, including remuneration, up to three consecutive days for each month of employment,” may be read.
The proposal provides that “a medical prescription indicating endometriosis or adenomyosis with disabling pain is delivered to the employer and constitutes proof of reasonable absence without the need for a monthly renewal.”
The bloggers also want people with endometriosis or adenomyosis “to be able to preserve their fertility, namely by cryopreserving their oocytes, giving the National Health Service the opportunity to respond to collection and storage.”
The proposal clarifies that this possibility also extends to “other pathologies that lead to infertility and cast doubt on the possibility of future parenting projects.”
Bloggers remind of the importance of “enforcing the right” to “timely diagnosis”, therefore, they propose to create a reimbursement regime for drugs intended to treat and alleviate the symptoms of endometriosis and adenomyosis, gestagens or others prescribed by the National Health Service (SNS) by medical specialists.
This proposal follows a petition to be debated in Parliament on February 16 to create a National Strategy to Combat Endometriosis and Adenomyosis.
