The 14th Livre Congress will end this Sunday in Setubal with the elections of new internal bodies and the approval of the electoral program for the European elections in June.
The work of the second and last day of the main meeting begins at 10 am in the municipal pavilion of the Costa de Caparica in Almada with the announcement of the result of the amendments presented by activists to the pre-election program for the European elections. followed by approval of the final document.
After the document is approved, the head of the list, Francisco Pauperio, and the second number, Philip Pinto, will speak to congressmen.
The process of open primaries for the selection of a slate of European candidates, namely the election of leader Francisco Pauperio, has generated contradictions and internal divisions, which has already led leaders to recognize the need to improve this unique process in the Portuguese party panorama, without abandoning the principle of openness to society.
Francisco Pauperio won the primary with a significant number of single nonpartisan votes, prompting the Electoral Commission to question the possibility of “rigorous results” in the first round and to propose that only party members vote in the second round. – something that ultimately did not happen.
A European plan guaranteeing affordable housing, a “new European minimum wage” and ending “Fortress Europe” through a “more humanistic” asylum system are just some of the measures contained in the document.
We also think about the regional elections in Madeira, scheduled for May 26, a few minutes before the speech of the head of the list, Marta Sofia, and the second number, Carlos Andrade.
The voting results will then be announced on 25 specific proposals and new national bodies for the 2024-2026 mandate, which includes a Contact Group (direction) with three lists of candidates.
List A is headed by Livra parliamentary leader Isabel Mendez Lopez and includes names such as deputies Ruy Tavares and Jorge Pinto, as well as European number two Philip Pinto; the “B” list is headed by leader Natersia Lopez, followed by Rodrigo Brito and Patricia Robalo; and in list “C” the first name is João Manso and the second name is Irene Gomez.
The Contact Group consists of 15 members elected according to the Hondt method, and therefore it is certain that it will include representatives of various internal movements.
The voting results will also be announced for the Assembly, the highest body among the congresses, consisting of 50 members and having 95 candidates, and for the Jurisdictional Council, which has 11 seats and two lists of candidates: list “A” is headed by deputy Paulo Muacho, and “B” – member Rui Matias.
Once the results are announced, the winning leadership list is finalized, and it is likely that MP and repeat leadership candidate Rui Tavares will address congressmen for the last time at 1 p.m.
