Prime Minister Luis Montenegro will make a statement to the country at 8 pm today at the official residence in Sao Bento, after a meeting of the Council of Ministers, a source in the office of the head of government told Lusa.
The Council of Ministers will meet at 15:30 and, according to several media reports, will help approve the location of the future Lisbon airport.
However, contrary to what was initially announced by the Presidium of the Council of Ministers, there will be no press conference at the end of the government meeting, but a statement by Luis Montenegro addressed to the country at 20:00.
The Independent Technical Commission published its final report on the strategic environmental assessment of the new airport on March 11, maintaining its recommendation for a single solution at Alcochete or Vendas Novas, but noting that Humberto Delgado + Santarem “may be a transitional” solution.
In this decision, the commission calls Santarem “an additional airport to AHD (Humberto Delgado), but with a limited number of flights, which does not allow the necessary airport capacity in the long term”, but “it will have the advantage of overcoming this problem in the short term, created by the concession agreement, with the added benefit of private financing.”
The PSD decided to establish an internal working group to analyze the location of the new Lisbon airport after agreeing with the PS to establish a CTI to carry out a strategic environmental assessment.
Social Democratic President Luis Montenegro, even before being elected prime minister, guaranteed that a decision would be made “in the first days” of his reign.
