Isabel dos Santos challenges Interpol’s Red Alert because it is based on ‘false information’

Angolan businesswoman Isabel dos Santos will challenge the Interpol red alert requested by the Angolan state because it is based on “false information,” the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ) said on Wednesday.

The ICIJ published this Wednesday an investigation into the real estate assets that Isabel dos Santos, her mother and the former partner of her husband Sindiki Dokolo (now deceased) own in Dubai, which they call a “safe haven” for politicians’ illicit fortunes. and citizens facing justice.

In response to a query from a consortium of journalists about properties she owns in this state of the United Arab Emirates, the daughter of former President Jose Eduardo dos Santos said she intends to challenge the Interpol request because it was issued on the basis of “false information” from the Angolan authorities.

According to Interpol, a “red notice” targeting Isabel dos Santos in 2022 is “a request to law enforcement agencies around the world to locate and provisionally arrest an individual pending extradition, extradition or similar legal action.”

Isabel dos Santos said in an email that she bought her apartment in Sadaf for “personal use” with money she earned from her companies and from public appearances, and added that President Joao Loreso and the Angolan authorities “have a politically motivated agenda.” vs. The Dos Santos Family.

“They fabricate false evidence and do not allow the courts to be impartial and independent,” the businesswoman wrote.

The Angolan justice system has rejected the accusations and vowed to use all possible means and activate international mechanisms to return Isabel dos Santos to Angola, which she left in 2017 when her father’s successor took power.

A new ICIJ investigation, Dubai Unblocked, reveals how policies have been put in place that have helped turn Dubai into a haven for alleged criminals and corrupt politicians, as the United Arab Emirates (UAE) tries to shed its reputation as a preferred destination for money. money laundering and terrorist financing after being removed from the “grey list” of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF), an intergovernmental financial organization.

Data compiled by ICIJ shows Isabel dos Santos and her mother Tatiana “Kukanova” Regan are co-owners of an apartment in a building called Sadaf, which was valued at more than $570,000 this Wednesday.

Dubai property records also contain information about Konema Mweneng, the business partner of businesswoman Sindika Dokolo’s late husband, and the companies he is associated with.

Isabel dos Santos regularly posts photos and videos on her social networks of herself in restaurants and at parties in Dubai, despite legal proceedings against her in Angola, Portugal, the UK and the Netherlands.

According to ICIJ, the UAE does not have any agreements regarding Angola, nor does it have an extradition treaty with the country.

Earlier this year, an Angolan court charged Isabel dos Santos with 12 crimes and causing $219 million in losses while she headed state oil company Sonangol.
