The emergency department at the Santo Tirso hospital was closed from 00:00 to 08:00 on Tuesday because the doctor who was supposed to be on duty was absent, a source at the local Médio Ave medical unit said.
According to the source, work resumed at 8 am.
The source added that the Center for Urgent Care for Patients (CODU) and firefighters were notified, so the patients were taken directly to the emergency department of the hospital in Vila Nova de Famalicão.
However, according to the same source, “few patients are treated at night” in Santo Tirso, while “everyone is examined” in Famalicana.
The local medical unit of Medio Ave includes the hospitals of Santo Tirso and Famalican, as well as the medical centers of Centro de Saud de Negrelos, Santo Tirso, Trofa and Famalican.
