Granddaughter Lizzie said her grandfather Geoffrey had a passion for travel and that he was looking forward to going to Singapore with the love of his life: “Geoff was simply one of the best people in the world. He lived life to the fullest and I can’t believe he’s gone. Both he and his wife Linda were very good people. They loved each other so much that they were the loves of their lives.”
Neighbor Steve Diamond also mourned the loss of his friend: “It’s a terrible shock, he was a very good guy. They were a wonderful couple. They were very enterprising and had been planning their vacation for a long time. They spent the last weekend with their grandchildren because I didn’t want to see them for a while.”
The emergency landing of a Singapore Airlines Boeing 777 also injured 30 people. There were 228 people on board between passengers and crew.
Boeing expressed its condolences to the family of the deceased passenger via Platform X.
