The regulation increasing the basic value of the solidarity benefit for the elderly (CSI), which means a monthly benefit of 50 euros for its beneficiaries, was published this Wednesday in the Diário da República.
The extraordinary update comes into force on 1 June and sets the annual base cost of CSI at €7,208, an increase of €600 compared to what was in force since January and representing a 9.1% update compared to what was set for. 2024
“As part of Program XXIV of the Constitutional Government and the fight against poverty, it is necessary to gradually increase the basic value of the CSI to a value of 820 euros in 2028, with the aim of equalizing the value of the guaranteed minimum monthly wage, then in the legislature and improve access to social benefits so that those who truly needs them, could use them,” says the preamble to the resolution published today.
On May 9, the Council of Ministers approved an extraordinary update of the CSI reference value for this year, which now has a monthly base value of 600 euros instead of the current 550 euros.
In the same Council of Ministers, the executive headed by Luis Montenegro approved the abolition of the income of the children of beneficiaries as an exclusion factor for social benefits.
At the time, Montenegro confirmed the target of reaching the benchmark cost of €820 by the end of the legislature, but acknowledged that it had put forward this target.
“We will do everything to accelerate the achievement of this goal,” he said.
