The Judicial Police (SP) arrested four men suspected of robberies and kidnappings in the municipalities of Maya and Vila Nova de Gaia in 2022 and 2023, it was announced on Wednesday.
The joint venture suspects that men aged 36 to 44 years “are responsible for the kidnapping of a citizen who was restocking tobacco machines and the theft of the entire volume of goods transported by him” on February 1, 2022.
According to the joint venture, “using threats of using firearms and physical aggression, the suspects restrained the victim, covered his head with a hood and placed him in the cargo bed of the van in which he was transported, leaving him in a deserted place” and fled, taking goods “worth thousands of euros” .
On March 3, 2023, the same suspects, according to the joint venture, “came to intercept the vehicle, prevent it from moving and, under threat of firearms from the driver, stole a large amount of money and wrote off tickets.” Santa Casa da Miseriórdia”, in the industrial area of Maya.
“The detainees have a criminal record for crimes against life and property and will be brought to the judicial authority for interrogation and the application of coercive measures,” the joint venture said in a statement.
