Chega’s campaign for the European elections will start in the Algarve and end in Viana do Castelo, and on most days there is only one action planned – betting on the streets.
According to the itinerary published by the party this Thursday, Chegi candidates will travel through 11 of the country’s 18 constituencies during the 12 days of official campaigning for the European Parliament elections on June 9, with action largely taking place during the day and at night. , similar to what happened in the last national rounds of the party.
The party focuses mainly on street parties, with three dinners also planned. It is also planned that party president Andre Ventura will accompany the candidates on the election campaign.
The first day, Monday, starts with a street party in Albufeira in the afternoon, followed by another street party in Olhão on Tuesday, followed by dinner.
Over the next three days, Chegi’s campaign will continue in Beja, Elvas (Portalegre district) and Évora, where further unrest is expected in the afternoon.
Over the weekend, the campaign heads to Santarem, where there will be a dinner on Saturday, and Seixal (Setubal district), where a street party is planned on Sunday.
The second week of the campaign begins in the Lisbon area with a street rally in Mem Martins.
Chega’s tour of the country, with party vice-president and former ambassador Antonio Tangier Correa at the top of the list, continues in Aveiro with further unrest on Tuesday 4 June.
The next day, Wednesday, the candidates will travel to Porto, and on Thursday to Braga, where they will hold two more rallies in the afternoon, one on each day.
On the last day of the official campaign for the European elections, Chegi’s caravan will be in Viana do Castelo, where it will hold a rally. The party concludes the campaign in the area with a dinner.
Chega does not yet have representation in the European Parliament, but the goal is to elect MEPs on June 9, and leader Andre Ventura has already acknowledged the possibility and hope that the party could even win these elections.
This will be the first time Chega will stand in a European election. In 2019, when the Constitutional Court officially recognized the party as official (a month before the elections), André Ventura headed the list of Basta’s coalition, uniting the People’s Monarchist Party (PPM), which now competes in the Democratic Alliance with the PSD and CDU-PP, as well as the now defunct Party of Christian Democracy and Citizenship (PPV/CDC).
Chegui Vice President Antonio Tangier Correa leads Chegui’s list in the European Parliament elections, with former PSD MP Thiago Moreira de Sá in second place, followed by former IL leader Mariana Nina Silvestre.
Number four on the list is Francisco Almeida Leite, a former journalist and former secretary of state in the government of Pedro Passos Coelho, and fifth is Chega leader Marcia Ferreira da Silva, who joined the party’s ethics committee.
