Taiwan is surrounded by dozens of Chinese Navy fighters and ships for the second day

This Friday, Taiwan deployed dozens of Chinese warplanes and warships off the coast in the second day of military exercises on its territory in response to the inauguration of a new president.

Mainland China released details of the exercise, which showed Taiwan surrounded by the People’s Liberation Army, the country’s armed forces. A new animated video shows the Chinese army closing in from all directions, with Taiwan surrounded in a circle.

Even so, there were few signs of concern among the island’s 23 million residents, who have been under threat of Chinese invasion since the two sides split during a bloody civil war in 1949. In the bustling capital Taipei, business continued as usual.
