The General Inspectorate of Medical Activities (IGAS) announced this Friday that it has begun the process of verifying the circumstances in which the death of the user tested with the green bracelet at the Santa Luzia Hospital in Viana do Castelo occurred.
In response to Lusa’s request for clarification, IGAS said the process, launched on Tuesday, “aims to evaluate the quality of the service provided in terms of the readiness of the assistance provided to the user in the emergency service.” “.
The 57-year-old patient died on the 17th, approximately seven hours after being admitted to the emergency department of the Santa Luzia Hospital, part of the Local Medical Unit of Alto Minho (ULSAM), after being given a green bracelet during examination.
On Monday, ULSAM announced it had launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the patient’s death.
According to IGAS, the inspection of the quality of services provided by the order of the Inspector General “does not contradict or prejudice the investigation initiated by decision of the governing body of the local health department of Alto Miño, EPE, within its own competence.”
The Ministry of Health has already asked that the open investigation “continue with the desired urgency.”
In a response to Lusa on Tuesday, the Ministry of Health said that “it awaits the completion of the above-mentioned investigation, which confirms the need for it to be carried out with the desired urgency.”
