Air traffic at Lisbon airport is severely hampered after the official plane of Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky landed in the Portuguese capital. Several planes that were due to land at Portela are waiting for the end of restrictions imposed for security reasons at Humberto Delgado airport, where Zelensky arrived shortly before 15:00 on Tuesday.
According to the Lisbon airport control tower, about a dozen aircraft continue to circle over the entire airport area.
In addition to the logistical challenges, the operation to ensure the security of the Ukrainian president involves several air force helicopters, which, after Portela traveled to the official residence of Prime Minister Luis Montenegro, is also limiting landings and takeoffs in the capital.
