The AD candidate for this Thursday’s European elections called on the PS to decide what it wants to say to the Portuguese democrats, pointing to the contradictions between António Costa, Pedro Nuno Santos and Francisco Assis.

Speaking at Guarda’s rally, Sebastian Bugallo said that “the PS has an obligation and a real debt” to the Democrats, “whether they are left or right, center-right or center-left.”

“The PS must decide what it wants to say to democracy, and it must decide it quickly for two reasons: either AD is the same as Chega, as the PS leader said, or the right is the same as the far right, as Dr. Martha Temido said.”

“Or AD is AD and rules with AD in the service of the Portuguese, which is what we all saw,” he said, citing statements by MEP candidate Francisco Assis in which he said the PSD has nothing. relate to far-right racists.

In his opinion, the leader of the Social Democratic Party, Pedro Nuno Santos, “between these two alternatives, between the closest to reality and the closest to illusion, he prefers the second.”

“What do we have left? Who is responsible for the PS? What does the PS think and decide? Which version of Portuguese democracy prevails in the PS,” he asked.

And he continued: “Is AD extreme right or AD is moderate and builds democracy next to the PS, alternately with the PS? The PS does not make decisions.”

Bugalho used his intervention to welcome the participation of the President of the European Commission in the Democratic Alliance campaign of June 6, announced this Thursday, pointing to further contradictions with the PS.

The head of the AD list also cited past statements by her PS opponent, in which she praised the role of the European Commission President in the fight against covid or in the development of the Recovery and Resilience Plan.

“While it worked, the PS did not forget about this legacy of Ursula von der Leyen (…), but now that we are going to the polls, there is a collective amnesia in the minds of the socialists,” he accused, saying that “for the PS it seems that suddenly the President of the Commission that defended Europe from invasion became an ally of the occupier.”

Sebastian Bugalho also questioned the PS’s support for Nicolas Schmit, who joins the socialist campaign on Saturday, for the presidency of the European Commission, saying that the Luxembourger has the support of countries whose policies have been criticized by Marta Temido, such as Denmark, Malta or Spain.

In a hall with 60 seats and a large number of people standing, the first candidate of the CDS-PP, Ana Miguel Pedro, number three on the AD list, spoke for the first time during the official campaign.

“This candidate wants to be a voice for agriculture and the weaknesses of the interior,” he said, criticizing the PS program for Europeans in this area, saying that on 31 pages there was only one mention of strengthening dialogue with farmers to carry out strikes. balance with climate change.

“We are as cool as Bugalho inside the country,” he joked, and also asked the candidate to organize a visit of representatives of the Guarda councils to the European Parliament.
