The family had to be relocated to the island of Terceira in the Azores after heavy rain and thunderstorms on Sunday evening and early Monday morning, a civil protection source said.
“Fortunately we have no casualties to report, but there was a need to relocate a family unit and this task was carried out by the Municipal Civil Protection Service of Praia da Vitória” on the island of Terceira, said the president of the Regional Civil Protection and Fire Safety Service Azores (SRPCBA), Rui Andrade.
According to the head of civil protection of the Azores, bad weather caused “a total of 44 incidents on the islands of Terceira, Sao Miguel and Pico”, such as “flooding in houses and on roads” as well as “small landslides”.

Firefighters, the Regional Office of Public Works, the Municipal Civil Protection Services and the Public Security Police (PSP) were on site to support and resolve the various situations related to bad weather that affected the central groups (Terceira, São Jorge, Pico, Graciosa and Faial). ) and the eastern (San Miguel and Santa Maria) Azores, which were under a yellow warning, the least severe on a scale of three.
