PS demands an explanation from the Minister of Economy in Parliament regarding the administration of AICEP

On Tuesday, the PS requested parliamentary hearings from Economy Minister Pedro Reis to understand the reasons for changing the administration of the Agency for Investment and Foreign Trade (AICEP).

The announcement was made in parliament by MP Hugo Costa, who in statements to journalists argued that the departure of an administration that he said had performed well “in a sector so important for growth and development” was “very serious.”

“It is important that we understand the reasons that prompted the Minister of Economy, who was absent during these nine weeks, to appear publicly for the first time with the dissolution of the board of directors. The Minister of Economy cannot hide,” he criticized.

For the socialist, it is a government decision made by “guerrillas”, the same expression used this Monday by Augusto Santos Silva to criticize this case, which is part of a pattern that has already led to “nine purges in nine weeks”.

The socialist was referring to previous dismissals at the PSP, at the Social Security Institute, at the Santa Casa da Misericórdia, at the Executive Directorate of the SNS, at the Museus e Monumentos EPE, at the Patrimóniocultural IP, at the Mosteiro de Jerónimos and at the Torre de Belém.

“The board of directors, which was dissolved yesterday [segunda-feira] it was a board of directors with results. Exports have increased and foreign direct investment has also increased (…) it makes no sense for us to discount it just for the sake of convenience,” he said.

Hugo Costa said that the only convenience in this decision is “party and political” and recalled that the first government led by António Costa, which came to power in 2015, did not change the decisions made by the previous leader in the AICEP administration.

The Socialist lawmaker also criticized the new administration, led by consultant Ricardo Arroja, saying it was made up of “a group of people with no experience in international trade and exports.”

This Monday, the government dissolved the AICEP administration headed by Filipe Santos Costa and appointed in his place Ricardo Arroja, professor and consultant.
