A 40-year-old man died this Thursday in the Langeses district of the municipality of Viana do Castelo as a result of an accidental discharge from a hunting weapon with which he was holding his hands, said a source in the Judicial Police (PJ) of Braga.
Contacting the Lusa agency, a source from PJ in Braga said “it was a mistake in handling the weapon.”
SP Braga was informed of the incident but did not go to the site because it was an accident “which was witnessed by several bystanders”.
Lusa contacted Carlos Lima, the commander of the Ponte de Lima Fire Department, the corporation that took care of the incident, saying “the shot hit the man in the face.”
A source from the GNR territorial command in Viana do Castelo said that the Criminal Investigation Core (NIC) was investigating the circumstances under which the accident occurred.
The body was taken to the Institute of Forensic Medicine (IML) located at the Santa Lucia Hospital, in Viana do Castelo.
16 operators and eight vehicles from the Ponte de Lima fire brigade, GNR, an ambulance (VMER) from Alto Minho and a mobile psychological emergency intervention unit (UMIPE) from INEM arrived on the scene.
